What the Pahibalo News website and Android app do, and do not, collect about you.

The short version. You do not need an account. We do not ask for your name, your visa status or your address. The app has no advertising and no third-party tracking in it. What you save and what language you read in stay on your own phone.
Pahibalo News is published by Kangaroofern Media Lab Pty Ltd, an independent newsroom in Adelaide, South Australia. If you want to reach a person about anything on this page, write to editor@financialregister.com.au.
The app does not have accounts and does not ask you to sign in. It does not collect or transmit any personal information.
Two things are stored on your phone and never leave it:
Both are removed when you uninstall the app. We never see either of them.
To show you the news and play the stream, the app asks our servers for content, the same way a browser does. Those requests carry the ordinary technical information any internet request carries, such as your device's IP address, which our servers use to send the response back and which we do not use to build a profile of you.
When you tap the name of an outlet on a wire item, the original article opens in your browser. From that point you are on that outlet's website and their privacy policy applies, not ours.
Programme artwork is loaded from the podcast hosts that publish those shows.
The app asks permission to show notifications for one reason: so that when audio is playing you get the usual media controls on your notification shade and lock screen. If you say no, everything else still works — you just control playback from inside the app.
Pahibalo News is a general news service written for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
If you subscribe to the newsletter on this website, you give us your email address so we can send it to you. We use it for that and nothing else, we do not sell or share it, and every email has an unsubscribe link. Ask us at editor@financialregister.com.au and we will delete you from the list.
Australian privacy law gives you the right to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, to correct it, and to complain if you are not satisfied. For the app the answer will be "none". For the newsletter it will be your email address. Write to editor@financialregister.com.au and we will answer within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant we will say so on the front page rather than quietly editing this one.
